Alaska Whale Foundation
The Alaska Whale Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting marine life and habitat in Alaska.
People Problem
Many young people are generally uninformed and disinterested in conservation efforts dedicated to protecting our natural world and its habitats. As someone who grew up surrounded by nature, I found it disheartening to see the lack of care my generation has for the environment and its habitats.
Solution
Redesign the Alaska Whale Foundation's brand identity to make it more memorable. This rebrand aims to appeal to younger audiences, encouraging them to become more environmentally conscious and advocate for our planet. Influenced by the indigenous tribe in the area, AWF honors Tlingit art and echoes its design elements throughout the rebrand.
Target Audience
Teens to adults, ages 18-25+
Brand Overview
Inspired by the indigenous Tlingit (Lingit) People in Alaska, I aimed to create a rebrand that honors their art and culture. AWF conducts its operations on these indigenous lands and waters, ensuring that indigenous leaders are followed and respected as they work to decolonize and re-indigenize conservation science and ecosystem management. I believe it is vital to recognize the environmental efforts and management of indigenous tribes, as they have looked after their lands and waters for thousands of years. Therefore, I wanted to pay homage to Tlingit art and culture in this rebrand.
