People Problem
Many gardening enthusiasts, including myself, want to grow our own vegetables and plants. However, information overload and lack of direction creates a level of uncertainty when starting out. As a result, people often feel discouraged from learning and ultimately give up.
What are the benefits of growing your own garden?
Growing your own garden improves physical and mental health, fosters community building, and saves money on grocery bills.
Solution
Design a gardening app that teaches users how to grow their own garden. This app will enable users to track their growth progress, recommend care guides and tutorials, and foster community building on an online platform. The app will feature a seamless and accessible UI that allows users to navigate freely with ease.
Target Audience
Teens to young adults, ages 18-25
Key Features
• Track and customize growth progress, such as growth timelines and harvest dates.
• To-do list that can add or delete reminders as well as add them to a calendar.
• Growth tracker to track vegetables and plants in real-time, including daily water, sunlight, and fertilizer maintenance.
• Shop products, such as seeds, plants, fertilizer, and tools from Eden.
• Online community platform to share, like, reply, and repost updates about growth progress in the form of static images or video content.
User Data
In order to gauge the level of interest users have towards raising a garden, I conducted a survey about what they would be interested in growing.
"I would like to grow tomatoes, carrots, peppers, radishes, beets, pumpkin, cucumbers, and onions. I would also like to grow flowers like sunflowers and tulips.”
Male, 21
“...anything that could grow in an apartment garden would be nice like tomatoes, cucumbers, and zucchini.”
Female, 20
In the survey, I also wanted to know what kinds of features they are looking for in a gardening app to enhance their experience.
“Good visual design for menus and buttons for easy usage. Also, a way to input data of the growth progress as a way to interpret what might be best for the health of the plant or vegetable.”
Male, 21

“Accessibility, easy to understand, engaging, and interesting.”
Unknown, 19
“How to grow guides, tips from experts, and a helpful Q&A where others can answer your gardening questions.”
Non-binary, 21

“Profile, personalization, and a variety of plants.”
Female, 20
According to the survey conducted, 75% of users felt overwhelmed and lost when it came to learning about how to grow their produce or plants.
This case study outlines the discovery phase, design process, and brand identity of Eden in order to create a functional and accessible interface using Figma to address user feedback.

Onboarding
If new users don't have an existing login to Eden, they can create an account. They will then need to answer a brief survey and browse through different options with the drop-down arrow.
Brand Overview
The branding for Eden centers on growth and encouraging users to be resourceful, sustainable, and Eco-friendly. With this in mind, I developed Eden's brand identity and visual language inspired by the abundance our fertile lands can offer. From color palette selection to brand voice, Eden is cultivated with a lot of TLC and sunlight.
